WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Confident with the basics of Photoshop – perhaps as the result of attending our introductory course – you will have good general computing skills on Mac or PC.
COURSE DETAIL
If you’re looking to use Photoshop to its full potential, you’ll need to extend your knowledge of electronic imaging, as well as output to proof and film. In this three-day session with your industry expert, you learn how to correct, manipulate and digitise colour images and will explore the potential of proofing systems and colour management. The course covers everything from path tools and layer creation to masking, retouching, resizing and input scanning. You’ll find out more about filters, special effects and gradients.
ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Sara Bevan works as an illustrator, animator and artist and uses predominantly digital, photographic imagery in her work. She is particularly interested in creative, atmospheric image manipulation and collage, and in the combination of early photographic techniques with the extraordinary possibilities of digital media. She works primarily with Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
Martin Vowles studied Graphic Design at the London College of Communication and the Royal College of Art. Since then he has worked as a freelancer and co-founded M/A in March 2007. He is also a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College of Art and Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and has worked for clients such as The Southbank Centre, Amnesty International, National Youth Theatre, BAC, Nesta, Levi’s and the NHS.

How will the Studio Photography minor enhance my degree?
This minor is designed to give you mastery of the full range of camera formats – from a 35mm format up to a 4×5 studio view camera, including digital capture.
What technical training in Studio Photography is covered?
• Electronic flash, quartz qalogen studio lighting
• Digital capture, color, and black-and-white films
• Color photographic print materials and techniques
• A full year of studio photography, with use of various light shaping tools and techniques, digital and traditional capture, coupled with introductory courses in photography
• A high level of technical achievement and competency with professional tools
What does the coursework cover?
Studio courses are technically rigorous, with extensive use of professional photographic tools and equipment. Advanced-level classes concentrate on design and creative approaches to staged and directed shooting.
What kind of facilities will I have access to?
You’ll learn in one of the best-equipped facilities in the county. Facilities also include:
• Dedicated photography shooting studios
• Four state-of-the-art black-and-white darkrooms (with 55 Beseler 4×5 enlargers)
• Color darkroom (with 14 individual stations with Beseler 4×5 enlargers and a 32-inch Colex RA-4 color processor)
• Dedicated Apple G5 Digital Imaging Lab (with 16 G5 systems, with dual LCD displays, scanners at every station, and a variety of input and output devices)
• A well-equipped Equipment Room, featuring a wide variety of professional industry-standard equipment available for checkout by students

The Film/Animation bachelor’s degree is a double major combining elements from our programs in Film/Digital Video and Animation. In your junior and senior years, you’ll take sequences of studio courses from both majors—the Animation Workshop courses and Cinema Production courses. You’ll build a broad range of creative and professional skills.
