Black Hills State University has an outstanding scholarship program that has been established by friends, alumni, faculty, staff and students. Scholarships are based on student achievements and may vary from a one semester to a four-year award. Whatever the amount, scholarships play an important role in assisting students with their educational costs.

Apply for admission today! Awarded based on your application for admission – no separate application required. The BUZZ Bonus is guaranteed to eligible students while funds are still available.

This award is available to a high school graduate who has not previously attended a post-secondary institution. Application is made during the senior year of high school. To be eligible, a student must attain a minimum ACT composite score of 21, be in the upper 33% of his/her class rank, and must have been admitted to Black Hills State University. The amount of the award is determined by the students ACT score according to the chart below.

This scholarship will be renewed for three years if the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA and takes 32 credit hours per academic year.

These scholarships are awarded upon admission to BHSU. If your ACT score or class rank improves please contact the Admissions Office to request a reevaluation.

Recipients of Black Hills State University scholarships are advised to contact Student Financial Services if they are anticipating taking classes at one of the other South Dakota public universities. Although completing a baccalaureate degree in four years requires students to successfully complete at least 16 credit hours per semester, most scholarships stipulate that students enroll in a minimum of 12 BHSU credit hours per semester to receive the award.
