The Bachelor of Art degree is less comprehensive then the B.F.A but still contains the essential core photography courses in both studio and history. This degree permits students with strong interest in other subject areas to pursue multiple minors without extending their four year college residency. Upon completion of the B.A. degree students will posses a basic vocabulary and technical proficiency in using both analog and digital technologies. This degree includes the study of a variety of processes and genres of photography. Students receiving this degree will be conversant in the history photography, its major artists and movements and contemporary issues and ethics.
Both Photography degree paradigms share the same basic courses in studio and history. The liberal arts core remains the same as well. The B.F.A degree requires application for admittance at the end of your sophomore year. By working closely with your advisor your freshman and sophomore years you can make an informed decision in on which degree path is the best fit for you to pursue.

Program Description
This intensive 4 semester program is intended for applicants with a strong interest in photography and image creation. Successful applicants will have a basic knowledge of photography and must demonstrate an understanding of imaging fundamentals. They will build a strong portfolio of photographic and illustrated images for a wide range of practical business applications. Along with artistic and technical skills, students will learn business and entrepreneurial skills. Students will work primarily in the digital realm of photography and imaging. Students will be required to purchase a minumum of photography/imaging equipment.
Photography Program in Germany
Students will return from this program with a deeper understanding of art, beauty, architecture, history, culture and photography of Eastern Germany. Visits to companies, galleries and museums as well as cities and sites will expose them to the major changes of the city of Berlin & Eastern Germany have gone through in the past decades: the downfall of the Berlin wall, the DDR and Berlin, becoming Germany’s capital again in the 1990s.

The photography department emphasizes the use of the photographic medium as an artistic tool. While some courses address commercial issues, the thrust of the department is toward producing visual artists who use photography as a primary means of expression. A variety of formats are integrated within a curriculum that includes experimental, narrative, and documentary approaches to the medium. Students are trained in B&W and color wet processes, studio practices, digital technologies and a variety of historical techniques. A senior exhibition marks the culmination of the program of study.
The photography department is housed in Taub Hall and the Renée Samuels Center and supports two multiple-station, black-and-white darkrooms equipped with Beseler 23CII and 45M enlargers, a color lab that includes a Colenta color print processor and Beseler and Durst 4×5 enlargers, film loading and processing rooms, and a finishing area for mounting, matting, and storage. The department maintains a shooting studio outfitted with overhead quartz, fluorescent, and strobe lighting systems, backdrops and assorted camera supports. The studio also contains a 4×5 view camera with a Leaf Aptus digital back and an 8×10 film camera. In addition, there is a large number of 4×5 view camera kits available for individual student use. The department includes a state of the art digital lab equipped with Apple Macintosh computers and a variety of scanners, printers, and digital cameras.

The B.F.A. program in Photography is designed to prepare students to succeed in the competitive world of professional photography while at the same time maintaining the standards and the aims of a NCA education. The NCA Photography program has an applied emphasis designed to prepare B.F.A. graduates to enter one of several professional fields of photography, including but not limited to advertising, illustration, editorial, portrait, journalistic or a fine art sub-discipline.
Graduates of the program develop photographic skills with fine art aesthetics, visual problem solving, and traditional and digital imaging photographic media as evidenced in their personal portfolios. Students also develop an understanding of both historic and contemporary photographic trends and masters. Collectively these attributes are gained through classroom instruction, work production, exposure to working professionals, and internships.
Students in the Photography program develop quality photographic projects with the final goal of a presentation portfolio.

The Master of Fine Arts in Photography Program at Brooks Institute is designed to expand the knowledge of students’ undergraduate learning experiences. The Master of Fine Arts in Photography degree program is designed to be completed in two years; however, a student may take up to three years to complete the program. Upon graduation, students should be able to:

Utilize a multitude of electronic and traditional resources to develop and execute effective research strategies
Describe the business, research and academic practices of the photographic field
Design activities that develop and enhance an understanding of photographic techniques, creative executions, and the intellectual aspects of the field of photography as an art form
