BA Film Studies at South Bank University United Kingdom
This course will provide you with a unique and stimulating combination of film theory, cinema studies and video-making practice. Designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of current film scholarship in a variety of contexts, it will also provide you with a creative and practical grounding for careers in the TV, film and media industries. The course focuses on the cultural, aesthetic, political and economic importance of film, and this is elaborated in three distinct areas: studies in world cinema; interrogating the relationship between film and new media; and practical experience of digital video production.
You will study film texts, film histories and national cinemas from a variety of theoretical and interdisciplinary perspectives, and develop the critical tools necessary for the analysis and understanding of contemporary film theory and practice and its connections within wider digital culture. Lectures and seminars are accompanied by weekly film screenings and you will be given the opportunity to develop transferable skills and aptitudes including group presentations and writing short screenplays and film production dossiers. You will also be given the opportunity to apply your knowledge creatively in practical video-making modules in both fiction and documentary film contexts.
