The aim of this course is to provide you will all the tools necessary to become an expert in the new and exciting field of digital photography. The degree will equip you with a thorough knowledge of the technologies involved in the production of digital images. We will teach you how to use a range of image scanning devices and software programmes, along with digital printing and output to screen based media. You will also learn about other areas of Media Studies, such as video, writing, hypermedia and digital art, and explore the ways in which they integrate with photography.
Careers
This course prepares you for a wide range of careers in the field of digital imaging, including independent photographic practice, work for web/video production companies, colour management/retouching services, fashion, reportage and editorial photography.

The objective of the School of Photography is to develop technically and aesthetically sound photographers, capable of successfully entering and competing in the open marketplace upon graduation. Students complete a series of classes conducted by working professionals, who guide each student to find his or her “style” both by content and approach. Armed with technical skills plus design and concept knowledge, the student develops a cohesive portfolio that has their personal signature in every image.
Potential Careers: Fashion Photography, Advertising Photography, Editorial Photography, Photo Technician, Fine Art Photography, Documentary/Photo Journalism and Portrait Photography.

The City College of San Francisco’s Photography Department is one of the oldest and largest programs in the country with over two dozen courses and more than thirty Instructors. We offer a broad selection of classes including but not limited to History and Aesthetics of Photography, Advanced B&W Darkroom Techniques, Advanced Studio Lighting, Digital Imaging, Mixed Media and Business Practices of Photography.
Our faculty and staff consist of experienced professionals who create an environment that encourages creativity, technical aptitude and critical thinking. Whether your interest is as a fine artist, commercial photographer or enthusiast, we will provide the means and guidance that will help you achieve your goals.
THE PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM OFFERS
Associate of Science
The Program is designed so that students may satisfy the requirements of graduation from the College. Students who satisfy these requirements receive the major in Photography if they complete the program of study with a B minus (2.75 grade-point average) or higher. The program adviser of the Photography Department will help students who desire to plan special programs of study.
