From day one hands-on instruction and practice provide the technical expertise which forms the foundation of future work. Through concentrated experience in the studio, students can learn how to manipulate and control lighting and exposures, compose people and still life compositions and produce images on a variety of film and digital formats.

Brooks offers a variety of professional photography degree program areas including a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Photography and a Masters of Fine Arts in Photography.

The life of a photographer can be as varied as the subjects they capture. But all successful professional photographers share certain traits: they must posses both a keen eye and technical expertise. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the most successful photographers are those with business savvy, creativity, and an ability to take advantage of emerging technologies. Real-world experience and a relevant Bachelor’s degree are two key qualifications for those beginning a career in the field.

AIU offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication with a concentration in Photography that can help prepare students to become creative and technically proficient professional photographers. This degree program integrates theory, practice, and team-oriented learning to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the field.

AIU offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication with a concentration in Animation that can help prepare students to become creative and technically proficient animators. This degree program integrates theory, practice, and team-oriented learning to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in this creative field.

The Visual Communication program at AIU is designed to educate and develop artistic and imaginative students for careers in the fields of commercial art and design. The program emphasizes the development of the thinking process and the ability to solve design problems creatively. Students can learn the principles, practical applications, technologies, and methodologies used in solving complex design problems in a creative and unique manner.

You will have the opportunity to work in both traditional and contemporary approaches to the discipline, including stop motion. In Year 3 students work in teams to produce a group project and in Year 4 students gain directorial and producing skills, and create a personal animated film of one minute in length as part of their senior project.
UNIQUE LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Work Term

A significant component of this degree program is a 14-week work term, offered between Years 3 and 4. The work term will give students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an environment related to their field of study. There is a $510 fee.

The graduate program leading to the M.F.A. degree is a 60 semester-hour degree program comprised of 18 hours in the major, 12 hours in art history, 24 hours of related arts, and six hours of graduate seminar. Candidates for the Master of Fine Arts degree are encouraged to complete all course work for the degree within three years to ensure the sustained concentration requisite to the achievement of quality work at the graduate level. Students must complete the degree program within five years. Additionally, students are required to complete one academic year in residence during the course of their degree program. This residency is defined as 18 semester hours comprising a minimum of nine semester hours taken in two consecutive semesters.

Throughout the program of study, student will be evaluated on a regular basis. A progress review is required during each semester of enrollment in the graduate program.

Upon completion of all course work for the degree, all graduate students present their work in a thesis exhibition at the Blaffer Gallery, with accompanying photographic documentation. The creative work and supporting documentation will represent the visual thesis. In addition, students must produce a written thesis, normally in the first semester of the final year of work for the degree, and pass a comprehensive oral examination conducted at the time of the Thesis Exhibition. The examination will cover students’ knowledge of their major discipline, of art history, and of related areas of art.

You will also gain a strong background in criticism, theory, and the history of film and video. As a Film/Digital Video major you will have the advantage of small classes and the personal attention of dedicated faculty.

College and can assist students in becoming professionals in the field of photography. The Photography major can serve as a basis for careers in studio photography, teaching, illustration, and photojournalism.

Students in the Associate of Fine Arts Degree Program at Sussex County Community College are given the opportunity to present their work at the student art exhibit and in the Idiom & Image as well as other College publications.

In addition, the Photographic Center Northwest, a non-profit community arts center, invites internationally recognized photographers to teach workshops and give public lectures throughout the year. Seattle University photography students are exposed to the work of both regional and international photographers through rotating gallery exhibitions at the Photographic Center Northwest.

The Fine Arts Department is pleased to announce a new degree program, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in photography
