The photography program provides the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses including black and white, digital, color, image manipulation, photojournalism, portraiture, commercial, and more. The courses emphasize the development of technical skills, a personal visual style, creativity, and the ability to respond critically to work. The program offers an A.S. degree in applied design and prepares the student to use photography in a wide variety of personal and career situations.

Aim of the programme
MA Photography and the Book is a unique award that offers you the opportunity to develop your photographic practice, knowledge and understanding through the resolution of individual projects where the dominant but not exclusive form of dissemination is a book or bookwork.
It is also intended to provide those with an editorial or curatorial photographic practice with the opportunity to develop and resolve original projects in book forms.
The programme has an ethos of experimentation, creativity, risk-taking, research and authorship which, combined with extended practice, leads to the development of a critical and theoretical understanding of the medium of photography.

Staff team with extensive international experience of photography and editing, designing and publishing
Full range of new photographic resources in a complex alongside media, design and print resourses
Links with an established Publishing MA
The Scott Building, where you will be based and where these resources are housed, also contains the Faculty’s Printmaking and Letterpress workshops.
Entry requirements
A good honours degree in photography or a related visual communication subject.
Appropriate professional experience may also be considered. An interview, portfolio and written piece of work will be required. IELTS of 6.5 or equivalent.

This exciting new course will impart the skills necessary to meet the challenges posed by the latest developments within photographic technology. The course combines the practical and critical study of photography with a strong emphasis on new technologies and enterprise.
With the majority of images being captured, viewed and distributed digitally around the globe, digital photography has become an influential tool in modern communication. Technological advances and the changes in working practices have had an enormous impact on the face of the industry allowing the individual greater creativity.
The course will focus on the latest developments in digital imaging and also aims to develop the critical tools for thinking about the role of photography within contemporary media. You will develop your skills with both analogue and digital capture, production, post production, promotion and distribution.
In collaboration with enterprise partners both inside the university and beyond, you will
contribute to a ‘stock image’ digital library which promotes and sells the work of students. This course prepares you for your future career and provides a live professional environment from your very first day at university.
We will encourage you to explore this rapidly expanding industry and equip you with the entrepreneurial skills required to build your own successful photographic business.

The Art Program is a dynamic interaction of creativity, instruction, and experimentation. The program offers an intensive examination of fundamental principles in visual phenomenon coupled with a wide exposure to various techniques and media, tempered by an environment designed to encourage creative expression and experimentation.
The individual’s inclinations and needs are considered in forming a program of study best suited to his/her tasks: those of utilizing technical skills, knowledge, and intuition to create an effective visual statement. The emergent major has a sense of self as creator and the tools necessary to put his/her creative flow into physical reality. Classes are small and individual instruction creates a stimulating and productive situation in which the novice and the professional may develop appreciation and a sense of satisfaction about their efforts

To be admitted into the graduate photography programs, you will have to satisfy both the Barry University and College of Arts and Sciences graduate admissions requirements. In addition, you will need to:
submit a minimum score of 40 on the Miller’s Analogies Test (MAT), or a minimum combined score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE;
demonstrate creativity and technical skill using the medium of photography and potential as a contributor affecting the evolution of creative photography based upon a portfolio review of original works; and
evidence the maturity, self-confidence and articulation needed for assisting undergraduate photography students based upon personal interviews with faculty and administration.

Emphasis is place upon creativity and originality, encouraging the students to develop portfolios possessing the same diversity and uniqueness as each of the artists creating them.
Individuals who have advanced skills in photography and who enjoy the challenge of stimulating creative and technical photographic activity should consider pursuing a graduate degree in photography from Barry University. Barry University offers two graduate degrees in photography, the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and the Master of Arts (MA).
The MFA degree is the standard academic credential needed to teach photography at the university level. This program requires a minimum of 66 credit hours to complete as well as a written thesis and a solo thesis exhibition.
The MA requires 36 credit hours to complete and an exhibition of your work.

The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program helps you to learn how to use your creativity to produce attention-grabbing communication design for film, television, and the Web. Visual effects are responsible for movie trailers, opening film credits, television commercials, animated network identities, and short promos. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as production assistant, assistant designer, visual effect specialist, or broadcast design assistant.
