The Art Photography program offers courses in B&W, color, alternative processes, digital photography, basic studio lighting and a survey of contemporary trends in photography. Our classes emphasize technical skills and creative image making. We have an excellent facility and an outstanding faculty and staff. Art Photography is part of the Art Studio program in the Visual, Applied, and Performing Arts Division. All Art Photography classes transfer either to the UC or CSU system

The Photography Program is designed to equip the graduate with a solid foundation in both digital and silver-based film photography. Graduates may find jobs as assistants in commercial and portrait studios, as technicians or digital imaging specialists in professional photo imaging labs, as staff members in corporate or government photo departments, or as members of film or television production crews. Desirable aptitudes and interests include the ability to pre-visualize subject matter, describe visuals in written scripts, engage in effective problem solving and work well under deadlines. Previous courses in art, photography, chemistry, algebra, physics, keyboarding or computer skills may be helpful. Students should be proficient in written and oral communication having attained B grades in previous English courses.

The field of photography offers a variety of commercial, educational, informational, scientific, technical, and fine art opportunities to the skilled individual who is interested in communicating ideas and concepts visually. Photographers find careers with newspapers, magazines, photo agencies, industrial companies, and medical facilities. Most commercial and portrait photographers are independent entrepreneurs. Many graduates find employment as sales representatives for photo-related corporations, while others work as sales representatives for other photographers. The rapid development and assimilation of electronic media has opened the door to a variety of additional career opportunities, such as creating or preparing an image for reproduction through computer technology.
