Students wishing to enroll at AIU must first complete the application process. To be considered for admission, first-time students and transfer applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
Submit a complete application for admission.
For prospective students who reside in North or South America or the Caribbean Region and who are applying through the AIU Admissions Office located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, an application fee of US $50 is required. For other international applicants who reside outside these regions and who apply through the Admissions Office in London, an application fee of GB£35 is required.
Submit attestation of high school graduation or its equivalent.
Participate in an admission interview arranged by an AIU Admission Advisor.
Non-native English-speaking prospective students are required to provide proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS or other approved English-proficiency assessment) prior to admission or upon arrival in London. Applicants should consult an AIU London Admissions Advisor for full details and English-proficiency requirements before applying to AIU London.

Step 1: Telephone Interview with an Admissions Representative

Students should apply for admission as soon as possible to secure acceptance for a specific program and start date. All applicants are required to complete a personal telephone interview with an Admissions Representative.

Parents and/or significant others are encouraged to be present and participate in this conversation. The one-on-one interview provides prospective students and their families with the opportunity to learn about the college’s degree programs, equipment and facilities and to ask questions relating to the school’s curriculum and career objectives.

Step 2: Admissions Requirements
Attestation of graduation
From a secondary school with a standard diploma, high school equivalency certificate or diploma through any state Department of Education or through the U.S. military; or completion of a home education program pursuant to the requirements of F.S. 232.02(04). Request for college transcripts
Necessary if applicant is seeking transfer of previously earned credit to the Academy.
Application for Admission
The signature of a parent or legal guardian is required if the applicant is under 18 years of age.
Payment of application fee
Non-refundable unless applicant is denied admission or cancels application within three days of the school’s receipt of the Enrollment Agreement and application fee.

The school reserves the right to deny admission to applicants.

Refund Policy

(a) Enrolled Students may request a full refund within 3 days of Enrollment. A full refund will also be given in the event, that the school discontinues a course, during the period of time within which a Student could have reasonably completed it.

(b) An Enrolled Student may request withdrawal in writing after the initial three day period, but before beginning studies and prior to the sixteenth day post-enrollment. Such student shall receive a refund of all monies paid, less the Enrollment Fee and 10% of the total Tuition Fee.

(c) No refunds are available on/or after the sixteenth day post-enrollment.

Please note that Tuition Fees are not TIME or CREDIT HOUR sensitive. The Tuition Fees are Degree Level sensitive only. Tuition Fees remain constant regardless of the number of courses taken, or the length of time consumed completing the required course of study.

The enrollment and graduation fees are not included in the tuition fee schedule.

The tuition fee schedule is an estimate which depends upon the number of credits needed to complete each program as determined by the Admissions Committee.

When to Apply

It is recommended that you apply as early as possible to ensure enrollment in all your classes.
Apply all year round to enroll in classes for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
The Academy accepts applications through the first week of each semester.
You may apply up to two years before you plan to enroll at the Academy.
Prospective Students in the Military

If you are in the US Armed Forces, either active or as a reserve, your Academy of Art University application fee will be waived. If you get called back to active duty during the middle of the semester or if you’re active now and your military responsibilities do not allow you to continue studying, you will be eligible for a full refund of your tuition and fees paid during the semester.

Tuition

Tuition at CalArts is established annually by the Board of Trustees and is subject to change each year. Tuition in 2009–2010 is $34,830 for full-time enrollment. It is anticipated that tuition will increase in successive years. New and prospective students will be notified when a change in the tuition rate occurs.

Tuition covers instruction, facilities, and some materials used within the regular programs. Students should be prepared to supply materials required for most projects. Tuition and fees (less any financial aid awarded) are due before or upon registration each semester. For new students, a nonrefundable admission deposit of $500, to be applied toward tuition, is due with the Statement of Intention to Register. Partial deferment of tuition, with interest charged on the amount deferred, is available by special arrangement. Inquiries about such deferment should be made at least 60 days in advance of registration, directly to the CalArts Controller’s Office. Upon registration, new students must make a deposit of $300 to cover loss or damage to CalArts property (keys, library books, equipment, etc.). It is refundable at the time of graduation or withdrawal.


Payment plan

CalArts offers payment options that can help you afford your education. Once accepted, you may enroll in one of the monthly payment plans offered by our partner, Tuition Management Systems. The payment option is available for a small enrollment fee and includes personal account service, automated account information 24 hours a day and access to your account through their website at www.afford.com/calarts.
