MA Photography at University of North London United Kingdom

Aims of the course

The course is a taught, practice-based programme enabling students to acquire advanced traditional and digital photographic skills and apply them to complex, self-generated projects. This is a Professional Preparation course as defined by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Linking the course with MA Audio Visual Production and MA Digital Moving Image enables the development of Film Works, a coherent cluster of practice-based courses that explore a range of related skills including digital, traditional and contextual concerns. Students will be encouraged to explore the ways in which traditional practices and emerging digital technologies have developed new genres.
Entry requirements
Applicants should be committed practitioners who wish to expand their practice both in terms of skills acquisition and theoretical concerns. The Department supports a wide diversity of practices. Applicants are normally expected to possess an Honours degree in Photography or Fine Arts, applied arts or design, or have equivalent experience. Graduates from related disciplines who can demonstrate a suitable level of visual literacy may, in some circumstances, be considered. All candidates must submit a portfolio. Successful applicants may be eligible to apply for an AHRC award (deadline is 1st April). See www.ahrb.ac.uk

Post-Baccalaureate certificate in studio at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Illinois

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio program provides students who have an undergraduate degree with an opportunity to expand their work in a large professional fine arts school environment. The two-semester program is designed to help students develop their artistic vision and technical proficiency and produce a strong body of work for the purpose of graduate admissions.

Applicants to the program may be international students requiring a year of intensive studio work typical to the United State’s educational system before beginning an MFA program, individuals with a BA or BS who need an additional year of studio experience to prepare a portfolio, or individuals with a degree in art who wish to pursue work in a medium different from their undergraduate major.

The curriculum combines the tutorial aspects of graduate school with the formal course work of an advanced undergraduate program. Students supplement their studio work with two art history classes, a one-semester post-baccalaureate seminar (or equivalent studio work), and an optional studio seminar. Completion of the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio does not guarantee admission to the School’s Master of Fine Arts in Studio program. Credits taken while a post-baccalaureate student cannot be counted toward an MFA in studio degree at the School should you later be accepted into that program. See the MFA in Studio program for faculty.

Participating departments include art and technology studies; ceramics; fiber and material studies; film, video and new media; painting and drawing; performance; and visual communication.

Interior architecture, printmedia, photography, and sound departments do not offer this certificate. Additionally, the studio areas of designed objects, and design for emerging technologies do not offer the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio.

Designed for individuals seeking professional development or a focused, sequential approach to a specific discipline, credit certificates from the Corcoran College of Art + Design may be completed through part-time study in one to three years.
Certificate students fully participate in classes, often with Degree students, and are held to the same high standards.

Certificates in Design prepare students to enter one of several expanding technology-based fields, or advance their current design careers. Fine Arts Certificate students access the Corcoran’s well-equipped studios, extensive offerings, and outstanding faculty. Electives are chosen in consultation with an advisor who can also approve substitutions for required courses, based on students’ prior studies or experience.

Each certificate program is either 15.0 or 18.0 credits in length. With the exception of some Botanical Art and Illustration courses, each course carries 1.5 or 3.0 credits. For a certificate to be issued, the requirements must be completed within a three-year period with a grade of C or better in each course. Students must ensure that the Office of the Registrar receives notification of their completion of high school or the equivalent before submitting their certificate request form.

BA in Documentary Studies at The College of Santa Fe New Mexico

Documentary Studies

The Documentary Studies Program at the College of Santa Fe offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in documentary studies emphasizing the collaborative application of documentary methodologies – especially photography, film, and non-fiction writing – to the study of society. The Documentary Studies program is inherently interdisciplinary and draws upon the perspectives offered by literature, history, and the social and environmental sciences to generate fresh understanding of social and cultural change and the challenges faced by people and communities throughout the Southwest, the nation, and the world. The program particularly encourages cross-cultural and international fieldwork, utilizing a close partnership with Sebastião Salgado and the Instituto Terra in Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

It is not enough to “get” the story. One needs to be able to tell it, powerfully and persuasively. Documentary Studies majors will hone their abilities as writers, photographers, filmmakers, and aural historians. They will learn to produce and disseminate their projects by means of the internet and digital technologies and more traditional forms-books, articles, photographic portfolios, and conventional films and videos. They will become communicators of the first rank.

BA in Photography at The College of Santa Fe New Mexico

The Bachelor of Art degree is less comprehensive then the B.F.A but still contains the essential core photography courses in both studio and history. This degree permits students with strong interest in other subject areas to pursue multiple minors without extending their four year college residency. Upon completion of the B.A. degree students will posses a basic vocabulary and technical proficiency in using both analog and digital technologies. This degree includes the study of a variety of processes and genres of photography. Students receiving this degree will be conversant in the history photography, its major artists and movements and contemporary issues and ethics.

Both Photography degree paradigms share the same basic courses in studio and history. The liberal arts core remains the same as well. The B.F.A degree requires application for admittance at the end of your sophomore year. By working closely with your advisor your freshman and sophomore years you can make an informed decision in on which degree path is the best fit for you to pursue.
